Deconstruction Day: April 2nd, 2022 from 9am -3pm
Missoula Parks and Recreation and partners invite residents to join them in the deconstruction of the Westside Park and Lowell Elementary Playground. The existing playground has exceeded its lifespan and is being replaced, along with additional improvements to the park and school yard. The playground was built by the neighborhood over 20 years ago, and is showing its age.
Deconstruction efforts will be coordinated by Heritage Timber and begin the week prior to the event. Volunteers will help to unscrew and organize pieces of wood and ensure that as much material can be reused as possible.
Much of the wood and features are salvageable and will be available for purchase at Home Resource. Proceeds from the sale of the salvaged play features will go towards park improvements and the community center at Lowell Elementary School. The woodchips will also be removed and reused throughout Missoula by Garden City Harvest.
The original donor fence pickets will be available to anyone who purchased one at the Project Playground build back in 1998. Contact Heidi West at email@example.com to claim your picket. Want to see the whole list of 440 pickets? That is right! 440!! What an amazing record that reflects some of the MANY people that supported the construction of the wooden playground. See the list of pickets here. Donations for these are happily accepted and will help fund the new playground and Lowell Community Center!
Volunteers are asked to RSVP online and be prepared to work outside, rain or shine. Please bring work gloves, closed toed shoes, a water bottle, and a cordless drill if you have one. All ages are welcome!
Lunch and snacks will be provided to all volunteers.
PLEASE RSVP SO WE CAN PLAN ON THE NUMBER OF TOOLS AND LUNCHES TO HAVE AVAILABLE.
The two hours shifts are from 9am – 11am, from 11am – 1pm, and 1pm to 3pm! Sign up HERE!
If you can’t volunteer but would like to support the event in other ways please reach out to Heidi West: firstname.lastname@example.org, cell 405.747.9158
